Looking After Our Village

A variety of organisations and groups exist and contribute to making Hampton-in-Arden the beautiful village it is and many Gardening Club members give their time to them.

Gardening Club. The Gardening Club itself, maintains and waters all the planters in the village, including six at the station, one by the war memorial and two by the shops at the top of the village. GC members volunteer on a rota.

You not need to be a member of the club to join the watering rota, all help is appreciated. For information contact:hiagcmembers@gmail.com

The Graveyard Gardeners. This group meets weekly, on a Monday afternoon, from March until late Autumn. They contribute to caring for the graves in the church grounds, focussing on ones that are untended. The ancient church, set on the edge of the village, by the grounds of Hampton Manor, is extensive. The group mainly uses plants gifted to them and takes an organic approach to maintenance. A gentle touch is taken with planting, ensuring that the natural beauty of the grounds is enhanced and that wildlife is encouraged.

Snowdrops carpet the ground from late Winter, giving way to banks of primroses and bluebells in the Spring. Summer and Autumn herald a variety of plants and splashes of colour under the cooling trees. The church grounds are a place of tranquillity and calm, with benches throughout to rest on.

The Group Meet up on alternate Wednesdays between September and March – with biodiversity being their focus, and ensuring people can the wood as they walk through it.

Path maintenance takes place during Wednesday meets, and at other times throughout the year. Numerous village residents and local businesses help.

They are supported by Hampton Parish Council (landowners), and other organisations help, with donations of logs, chippings and other needed equipment.

Hampton Wombles. The litter picking Wombles, meet monthly, on a Saturday, in the White Lion car park, are supplied with equipment and disperse around the village. Always working in at least a pair, safety is paramount and high vis. jackets are worn. The Wombles also join forces with the Parish Council, in March every year and together take part in The Great British Clean-Up. Check the village Facebook page for notifications or contact clerk@hamptoninardenparish.gov.uk

Eastcote and Fentham Road Allotments. Thanks to the Fentham Trust the village is fortunate to have two allotment sites, which are managed by the Parish Council. These allotments enable residents of Hampton, Catherine de Barnes (Catney) and Eastcote to have space to grow their own produce. Plot holders are extremely supportive of each other.

If you are interested in having a plot contact clerk@hamptoninardenparish.gov.uk
